Several separate studies have proved that if your child is healthy, then fever is nothing to worry about. Namely, as experts explain, it works to fight off infection which causes the child to be sick.

Still, there are few of steps that you should take if your child is burning up and is uncomfortable. All parents should be aware of the fact that in case if fever is persistent and lasts more than few days then you need to visit a pediatrician.

In these ways you can lower your child’s fever in less than 5 minutes:

Brandy water

Dilute a small cup of brandy with water and then soak gauze with the mixture, and put it in the child’s socks.

Remove layers of clothing

On this way the child will lose heat easily through its skin. Light layers are recommended. If the child shivers then cover it with a light blanket until it is warm again.

Lukewarm bath or a sponge bath is always good idea that is very efficient. When the water evaporates from the skin, then it will start cooling the child and bring down the temperature. Do not use cold water as it can make the child shiver and cause the body temperature to rise.

Make sure your kid to drink, plenty of water and lots of fluids, including chilled foods such as ice pops and yogurt that will cool the body from the inside out and keep the kid hydrated.

You should stay indoors in a cool place, or if outside, stay in a shade.

Grated potatoes

First of all wash, peel and then grate the potatoes which you should put in the child’s socks

Use a fan

Keep it at a low setting and have it circulate the air around the child, than blow directly at it

Another option is to place a damp and cool washcloth on the forehead while the child rests.

Important notes:

If the child is younger than 3 months and has fever you should immediately call a doctor. In addition, if the temperature reaches 101 degrees or higher and your baby is 3 – 5 months old, also visit a doctor. If your baby is 6 months old, call the doctor if the temperature reaches over 102.

In case you suspect that your kid has some serious symptoms such as difficulties in breathing or purple spots on the skin, immediately call a doctor, regardless of the age as these symptoms may be a sign of serious bacterial infection
